BOTANIQUE
A.—Adj. Dont la graine n'a qu'un seul cotylédon. Enfin, en dernier lieu, on constate l'apparition, et bientôt la prédominance des végétaux angiospermes ou à fleurs parfaites, tant dicotylédons que monocotylédons (Ad. BRONGNIART, Graines foss., 1876, p.3). V. aussi acotylédon ex. 3.
B. — Subst. fém. plur. Classe d'angiospermes caractérisées par un embryon à cotylédon unique. Comme Eichler, Engler admet que les plantes à fleurs les plus primitives sont les monocotylédones et dicotylédones privées de pétales, et de structures simples, à fleurs petites, unisexuées, à pollinisation par le vent (anémophiles) (Hist. gén. sc., t.3, vol.1, 1961, p.433).
